In an inpatient setting, my experience involves working closely with groups and individuals to facilitate art therapy sessions. These tailored sessions aim to support patients in achieving baseline functioning, managing acute symptoms, and harnessing creative techniques for self-expression and emotional exploration.

Facilitating group and individual sessions was a central part of my role, allowing me to support patients in their creative journey. Writing progress notes and documenting patient progress ensured a comprehensive record of their development over time. Hosting Open Studio space provided a platform for further creative expression beyond structured sessions. This experience fostered growth in my professional identity, influencing my values, attitudes, and behaviors in a positive manner. Utilizing knowledge of ethical and legal standards was paramount in ensuring the well-being of the patients. Practicing effective communication and interpersonal skills was key to establishing a supportive and nurturing environment for all individuals involved.

PROS is a program for adults with serious mental illness that helps them improve their lives through therapy, support, and training. It focuses on goals such as building better relationships, finding housing, pursuing education, and reducing time in the hospital. During my time there, I led group activities that promoted emotional control, self-expression, creativity, and coping skills.

Wellness Community offers CDT for those with mental illness and substance use disorder. This clinic provides therapy, builds coping skills for independence, and follows a harm reduction recovery model. Here I was able to facilitate both group and individual art therapy sessions promoting emotional regulation, identity building, as well as enhancing communication skills, coping mechanisms, and self-expression in a supportive environment.
